The BVSS Development Program is our competitive program for players born 2012 and older. The program provides an opportunity for players who want to participate in a higher level of training, competition, and commitment. Players are placed on gender specific teams. There will be some travel expectations, see below under ‘Tournaments’.
The Development program is open to players in Smithers, Telkwa, Hazelton and Houston. Practices will be held in Smithers.
*Players registering for the Development program should not sign up for House.
· Max team size: 18 players
Player evaluations may be necessary depending on registration numbers. Evaluations will occur in April/early May. Players will be selected based on skill level, tournament availability, commitment level, position, attitude, and overall fitness. Player selection will be at the coach’s discretion and will include outside observers.
Players not selected in April will be placed on a House team and invited to re-join Development after the mid-season break.
*Exact schedules will be at the discretion of the coach
It is the expectation that all development players are able and willing to travel to the following tournaments.
To maintain the strength of our House Program, some players will be placed on a House team during the regular House season. This will be applicable to those born 2012, 2011 (possibly), 2007, 2006 and 2005. All development teams will be included in the House game schedule and tournaments.
What does this mean?
For example, a player born in 2012 will have:
May/June - 1 practice and 1 game per week with a House team as well as 1 additional practice per week with their Development team.
July to Sept - 2 Development team practices per week plus exhibition games and possible tournaments. Some travel may be required.
Please ensure players have black shorts and white socks. A jersey will be provided. Cleats and shin guards are mandatory.
Minimum 5 hours per player plus 1 field lining summer session. All families are expected to volunteer during tournaments.
Additional parent support may be required for individual teams' fundraiser efforts to alleviate tournament travel costs.
All interested coaches are required to complete a Coaching Application Form that will be emailed to interested individuals. Coaches will be selected based on the following qualifications: training completed, coaching experience, player experience, valid CRC
Due to the rising cost of referee fees, insurance, equipment, and administration fees, BVSS has increased fees for the 2023 season. While we aim to keep soccer affordable for everyone, we need to ensure costs are covered.
The development fees cover your child’s soccer programming from April into September and include items such as:
We offer a two-part payment structure and have access to financial aid if needed. Contact admin@bvsoccer.ca for more information.
