2024 Development Program - Important Season Information

(BORN BETWEEN 2006 to 2013)

The BVSS Development Program is our competitive program for players born 2006 to 2013.  The program provides an opportunity for players who want to participate in a higher level of training, competition, and commitment.  Players are placed on gender specific teams.  There will be some travel expectations, see below under ‘Tournaments’.

The Development program is open to players in Smithers, Telkwa, Hazelton and Houston.  Practices will be held in Smithers.

*Players registering for the Development program should not sign up for House.

Roster Size

U14 and older: Max team size - 22  players  (travel teams may be reduced to 18 players)

U13 and younger: Max team size - 18 players (travel teams may be reduced to 14 players)

Player Evaluations

Player evaluations may be necessary depending on registration numbers.  Evaluations will occur in April/early May.  Players will be selected based on skill level, tournament availability, commitment level, position, attitude, and overall fitness.  Player selection will be at the coach’s discretion and will include outside observers.

Players not selected will be placed on a House team and invited to re-join Development after the mid-season break at the coaches discretion.

Inclusion in BVSS House Program

To maintain the strength of our House Program, players will be incorporated into the house program either on a house team or as a team for league games.  More details will be provided after registration closes.

U11 Development/House Program (players born 2013)

The U11 development program is considered a hybrid year.  It is an opportunity for players to experience more competitive soccer without the pressure of larger tournaments, more intense practice schedule, etc.  It is an inclusive program, all players are welcome, there are no tryouts.  Players born 2013 who register for development will also be placed on a house team.  They do not need to register for house soccer.

What does this mean?  The U11 players will have:

  • May/June - 1 practice and 1 game per week with a House team as well as 1 additional practice per week with their Development team.

  • July to Sept - 2 development team practices per week plus exhibition games and possible tournaments.  Some travel may be required.

2024 Season Plan

  • April: Indoor practice

  • May 1 to July 7th: Outdoor practice and games; 2 to 3 sessions per week.  Day/time TBD

  • July 8th to July 19th: Summer break.  No scheduled practices or games

  • July 22nd to mid-Sept: Outdoor practice and games; 2 to 3 sessions per week.  Day/time TBD

*Exact schedules will be at the discretion of the coach
